...There are about 55 golf courses in Dublin city and county, evenly distributed north and south of the Liffey. The population of the greater Dublin area is about one and a half million people and growing so the demand for memberships in the golf clubs is growing too.
Assuming the average membership of any of these golf clubs is about 800 then the total number of places available is in the region of about 45,000. Because of this disproportion the availability of memberships is practically negligible and this is reflected in the astronomical prices being charged for membership and the huge waiting lists.
